Position Purpose
The Junior Buyer qualifies vendors, evaluates bids, and negotiates prices and terms for purchased goods and services. Assists in purchasing materials, supplies and services at the most favorable terms for the organization.
Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks
- As a member of the procurement team, the Junior Buyer is an entry level position which performs tasks as assigned for the procurement of materials, supplies, and services for the construction of products manufactured by Gaumer Process.
- Learn and apply corporate standard procurement processes and procedures.
- Learn who key vendors are for major apparatus and miscellaneous items.
- Issue, follow-up and manage request for quotes (RFQ’s) to vendors, based on purchasing requirement reports.
- Update RFQ notes in company ERP system.
- Interact with component and service suppliers as needed to ensure that the material requirements are clearly communicated and fully understood.
- Attend meetings with Gaumer project team members to Coordinate with Project Managers and Production Teams for any material related issues.
- With the oversight of experienced Buyers, process requisitions, validate quotes, and place orders for both major apparatus and miscellaneous items, based on best cost, delivery and quality offered.
- Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of his/her work.
- Bring potential problems and possible solutions to the attention of the responsible party to assist in resolving the issue.
- The Junior Buyer is expected to develop skills necessary to plan, coordinate, and monitor procurement activities for a given project.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications
- High School Graduate at minimum.
- 1–year experience in a manufacturing or purchasing or warehouse environment preferred.
- Working knowledge of computers (Microsoft) is a must.
- Knowledge of ERP system (any) is a plus.
